The Assam Tribune – 19 April 2025

The Assamese residents of the UK celebrated Rongali Bihu with zest and splendour at the Brihottor London Bihu event recently where men and women, young and old, swarmed into the scenic venue of Wraysbury Village Hall in Staines.
The rhythmic beats of the traditional dhol, tuned with the notes of flute and pepa, made their way through the crisp spring air of Britain.
Ladies draped elegantly in paat silk and muga gathered beneath tufts of cherry blossoms to enjoy the memorable moments. The event was an exuberant blend of vibrance, youthfulness, and inclusivity within the Assamese community.
The interior of the hall blossomed with Assam’s artistry-colourful handicrafts and orchids adding charm to the space. Three photo and selfie booths stood adorned with cane weaves, tweed baskets, and ethereal kesa paat textiles, layered and arranged to perfection. As mid- day arrived, the sharp, nostalgic aroma of jolpaan beckoned guests to the feast, igniting their senses.
Post- lunch, visitors flocked in to revel in the cultural evening. In the evening, the traditional egg fights and lively games set the tone, followed by dazzling performances from British Assamese youth, who embraced their heritage with pride.
The husori team of Brihottor London Bihu ignited the stage with their rhythmic group dance.
